Bangalore: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri on Monday appealed to the Rotary, Lions, Round Table, industrialists and philanthropists to adopt government schools and donate for improving the quality of education there. Mr. Kageri was speaking after launching Project Balavidya of the Rotary Clubs of RI District 3190, under which he distributed notebooks to government school children. Hemachandra Sagar, MLA, U.B. Bhat, District Governor, RI District 3190, M.K. Panduranga Setty, industrialist, and Yajnanarayan K., chairman, Project Balavidya, attended the function. Lauding the efforts of the Rotary to distribute three lakh notebooks to government school children in Karnataka and part of Andhra Pradesh, the Minister said that in many schools there was shortage of rooms and desks. Even though the Government was providing uniforms, textbooks and midday meal to the children under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, it was unable to meet the requirements completely. Later, speaking to presspersons, the Minister clarified that what he had said in Tumkur recently related to the mistakes in textbooks such as spellings and printing errors. A reporter asked him if mistakes that had reportedly crept into the history books would also be rectified, and he said that if it was necessary the Government would seek the advice of the experts and it required a public debate, the Minister said. But, he had not made any reference to making changes in the history textbooks. InauguratedThe Minister also inaugurated the new building of the Government Higher Primary School at Hunasamaranahalli.
