Court grants bail to minor in snatching case
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Noting that the boy was a minor and undergoing treatment for mental illness, a court here on Monday granted bail to a teenager who has been accused of snatching the mobile phone of a woman constable of the Delhi police.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sameer Vajpayee granted bail to the accused on his furnishing a personal bond and a surety of Rs.10,000 each.
Medical records
The court took into account the medical records of the accused which said he was a minor and undergoing treatment for some mental illness. It also transferred the matter to the Juvenile Justice Board for further proceedings. Earlier, the defence had argued that the boy carried out the alleged offence as he was not able to grasp the gravity of his acts due to the illness. It had also told the court that the accused was a minor.
However, the prosecution had countered the claim of the accused being a minor and mentally ill.
