Electric train’s engine breakdown hits services
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: The movement of electric trains on the Tambaram - Chennai Beach sector was affected for more than an hour on Monday morning following a breakdown in one of the trains’ engine near the Pallavaram Railway Station.
Southern Railway officials said the electric train service B 24 left Tambaram at 7.56 a.m. When it reached Pallavaram, the engine coach developed ‘brake winding.’ The train suffered a delay of more than an hour. As a result, a few other trains were detained behind it and several hundred office-goers were trapped inside it on the first day of the week.
As information reached the Tambaram railway station, the subsequent services were operated on the main line and passengers in railway stations beyond Pallavaram were asked to shift to the main line platforms to board the Beach-bound electric trains.
Fast services from Tirumalpur and Chengalpattu, which are usually operated on the main line, were delayed as they had to travel behind the regular services. Normality in services was restored only around 9.15 a.m., officials added.
