Supervising: Additional Secretary to the Department of Medical Education Anees Siraj at RIMS on Monday. Raichur: Uncertainty looms over the future of the Raichur Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), following the poor response to a walk-in interview held here on Monday to fill vacant teaching posts. Admissions to the first year MBBS for the current academic year at RIMS has been suspended because of lack of “renewal of permission” from the Medical Council of India (MCI). The MCI did not permit the college to go ahead with the admission process this academic year when it found that there was a shortage of 16 per cent of the required faculty strength. During its inspection of the college last month, the team found that there was a shortage of professors, associate professors and assistant professors in anatomy, physiology, radiology and and pharmacology. Casual vacancy roundIn fact, the casual vacancy round for fresh admissions for the MBBS is supposed to start from July 28. Before that the management of RIMS has to obtain clearance from the MCIand get ready for fresh admissions to the first year MBBS course. However, this will be possible only after all vacant teaching posts are filled and the final documents seeking renewal of permission are submitted to the MCI. This process has to be completed before July 15. However, there was poor response to the walk-in interview held on Monday. According to official sources, only three candidates attended the interview. The Additional Secretary to the Department of Medical Education, Anees Siraj, who had come to supervise the recruitment process, said that the management of RIMS had been making sincere efforts to fill the vacant posts. He said that there would be no hitch in commencing classes for the second year MBBS from the second week of August.
