‘Exposure to communication skills key to their success’ 18 teachers to impart communication and soft skills VIJAYAWADA: Students of Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering (KLCE) on Tuesday gave all credit to the college management and faculty for bringing in a number of activities to help them develop multifarious skills and do extremely well in the placement drives of major software companies. 314 students selectedNearly 314 students of the college have been placed in Infosys, HCL and various other companies in the past three weeks. They narrated, at a meeting, how the exposure given to communication and soft skills throughout their stay on the campus had made a world of difference to them in succeeding in placement drives. InteractionThe college organised a programme to enable the successful students to come out with their experiences in the interviews and guide their juniors in various areas where they could do better in order to do well in their future aspirations. For Srinath, a student of computer science engineering, the stay on the college campus for the last three years had become an added advantage. He recalled how students of various courses were mingled in soft skills classes so that they could develop communication skills very early in their course. Richard, who was selected by Virtusa, a software major, said from the beginning, they were asked to be disciplined and behave like a professional engineering student. He pointed out that all students were asked to come in uniforms and shoes, which really helped in inculcating good discipline in them. Rupa, who was selected by Infosys, said all her fears had disappeared after getting exposure to various skills training on the campus. She said she was able to perform well in the interview only because of support from the faculty and the management. Principal L.S.S. Reddy said their institution had always given equal importance to developing knowledge of both technical subjects as well as communication skills. This was the reason why the KCLE had nearly 18 faculty members to teach exclusively communication and soft skills, he added.
