SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: State Bank of India Assistant General Manager, Puducherry, R. Sundar, handing over financial assistance to children in Puducherry on Tuesday. PUDUCHERRY: The State Bank of India, Pondicherry branch celebrated the “State Bank Day” through planting of saplings and adoption of girl children on Tuesday. Around four saplings were planted on the premises of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School on the occasion. “The theme for this year is tree planting to protect the environment. We are planning to extend the initiative to all schools to create awareness of conservation of environment. We want to plant more saplings in schools which have place throughout the year,” Assistant General Manager of SBI Puducherry branch R. Sundar said. To empower girl children, the bank has adopted eight children from downtrodden families. “We are adopting children from class III. We will support them till they complete class XII. Financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 will be given every year per child.” On their completing schooling, the bank would provide loans for the children, he added. Students from Vallalar Government Higher Secondary School, Lawspet, Societe Progressiste Government Aided High School, Government Primary School, Thattanchavady, Government Girls French High School, St. Joseph of Cluny Higher Secondary school and Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School were adopted by the bank.
