Government planning to involve industries in imparting skills to people from these areas ‘There is no plan to evacuate people from forest areas; rehabilitation only if they want’ Udupi: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje said on Tuesday that the Government would give importance to human resource development in the naxal-affected areas in the State. Addressing presspersons here, Ms. Karandlaje said that the construction of roads and bridges were being taken up in these areas while implementing various government schemes. But what was necessary was that the people of these areas should be given training which would lead to their employment. For this, the Government was planning to take the help of various industries which were expected to come up in and around Bangalore. ManpowerThese industries were on the look-out for skilled manpower. If these industries made their needs clear, people in the naxal-affected areas could be trained in the necessary skills. This would help prevent them from being swayed by the naxal propaganda. It was essential to develop schools and ashram hostels in these areas so that people in these areas could be educated. To a query, she said that the Government had no intention of evacuating the people from forests. If the people of these areas decided to come out of the forests on their own, then the Government would think of rehabilitating them. Difficult terrainAbout the lack of roads in the naxal-affected areas in Udupi district, she said that the Government was doing all it could to provide infrastructure in the naxal-affected villages. But it was difficult to provide roads and power supply to every house because of the terrain. She said that at a review meeting of Udupi district officials she had directed them to provide training to the people in the naxal-affected areas of the district. She had also directed the officials to reserve lands for schools, Ashraya houses and other community development schemes in the villages taking into account the requirement of the next 50 years, Ms. Karandlaje said. MLAs K. Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji Mendon, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary and President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat Raju Poojary were present.
