Villagers demand hike in compensation
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: Villagers of Kantakapalli in Kothavalasa mandal on Tuesday demanded that the assurance given to them in exchange for their valuable lands for establishing industries is met and also increase the compensation amount.
The villagers, led by CPI (M) district secretary M. Krishna Murty met Joint Collector B. Ramaiah in the morning and said that the APIIC had acquired 150 acres of D-patta land from them and paid compensation at the rate of Rs.1.04 lakhs per acre for establishing a glass factory in 2006. When the company did not set up the glass factory, the APIIC sold the land at Rs.3.50 lakhs per acre to M/s My Home Industries (Maha Cement). The villagers were also promised house-sites and a job to one member of the family in the factory besides the compensation. At present, My Home Industries too had reportedly backed out and the corporation is planning to sell the same land to another industry .
