BSNL, NGO pact to provide e-learning

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has entered into an agreement with Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS) to provide e-learning facility to students of Standard X and XII. The students having BSNL broadband connection can avail themselves of the facility by logging on to www.etutorpdy.bsnl.co.in form 6.30 p.m to 7.30 p.m on all weekdays.

“It has gone on stream from June 10. The registration for e-learning is free and download charges will be as per the broadband plan selected by the customer,” R. Marshal Antony Leo, General Manager, BSNL, Puducherry region told reporters here on Tuesday.

Teachers drawn by PMSSS from various fields would provide lessons in mathematics, English, science, physics, chemistry, botany and zoology.

“We are also planning a technology that would give the students an opportunity to interact with the teachers during the classes,” he said.

On other initiatives planned by the BSNL, Puducherry region, he said a main switching centre would be established at its office here by August.

“As of now the calls are routed through the centre in Vellore. Once the facility is set up, there will not be any congestion and calls can be made faster,” Mr. Leo said.

Plans were afoot to construct 44 more towers in Puducherry region by the end of March 2009, he said, adding 13 such facility would be provided shortly.

About connectivity problem faced by BSNL mobile phone subscribers, especially in Lawspet area, he said three towers would be constructed in Kurunji Nagar, Shanthi Nagar and Krishna Nagar to provide hassle-free service. It was also proposed to set up customer service centres at Mettupalyam, Villianur and Lawspet for the customers to pay their monthly bills, Mr. Leo said.
