Bus passengers spared for now

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Bus passengers can heave a sigh of relief with Transport Minister R. Ashok saying the proposed bus fare increase may not be implemented in the near future.

Mr. Ashok told presspersons here on Tuesday that another round of bus fare increase would not be considered till the diesel prices were reviewed by the Union Government. The Minister said: “With the recent increase in diesel price, the four State Road Transport Corporations will together stand to lose around Rs. 120 crore annually.”

He lamented that the corporations paid 7.7 per cent sales tax to the State Government on purchase of the buses while it was far less in other States.
