Career-high ratings for Ganguly, Humpy, Gopal and Abhijeet


Sasikiran replaces Hari Krishna as second strongest Indian player


NEW DELHI: National champion Surya Shekhar Ganguly and fellow Grandmasters K. Humpy, G.N. Gopal and Abhijeet Gupta reached their career-high ratings in the latest world list released by FIDE on Tuesday.

Anand retains top place

World champion Viswanathan Anand retained his place atop the world list despite losing five points from the last list released on April 1.

In the last three months, Anand played just two rated games and drew both in the Bundesliga. These results saw Anand slip from 2803 to 2798 Elo rating.

Russia’s Alexander Morozevich gained 14 points to catch up compatriot Vladimir Kramnik for a share of the second spot at 2788.

K. Sasikiran replaced P. Hari Krishna as the second strongest Indian player at present. Sasikiran (2684) gained five points and as many places to be 38th in the world. In contrast, Hari (2668) lost 11 points and slipped 12 places in the last three months to be 53.

India ninth

As per the average rating of the top-10 players, India is placed ninth in the world list headed by Russia.

The lists: World top-10: 1. Viswanathan Anand (2798), 2-3. Alexander Morozevich (Rus, 2788), Vladimir Kramnik (Rus, 2788), 4. Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 2781), 5. Veselin Topalov (Bul, 2777), 6. Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 2775), 7. Teimour Radjabov (Aze, 2744), 8. Shakhriyar Mamedyrov (Aze, 2742), 9-10. Alexei Shirov (Esp, 2741) and Peter Leko (Hun, 2741).

India’s top-10: 1. Viswanathan Anand (2798), 2. K. Sasikiran (2684), 3. P. Hari Krishna (2668), 4. Surya Shekhar Ganguly (2631), 5. K. Humpy (2622), 6. Sandipan Chanda (2588), 7. G. N. Gopal (2572), 8. Abhijit Kunte (2554), 9. Abhijeet Gupta (2551), 10. Parimarjan Negi (2529).
