ECoR to run special trains

Additional ticket counters to be opened

Round-the-clock availability of doctors at Puri


BHUBANESWAR: East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Tuesday decided to run 56 special trains from different parts of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh to cater to extra rush of passengers during Rath Yatra which was to be held on July 4.

“Special trains will also run from Puri on July 11, to July 13 to clear extra rush on the occasion of Sandhya Darshan, Bahuda Yatra and Sunabesa,” ECR said in a statement said here.

It said more special trains could be run depending upon public demand as also operational feasibility in view of recent breaches due to floods in West Bengal and North Orissa.

Besides, ECoR decided to open 18 ticket booking counters for unreserved tickets and current ticket counters would be opened round the clock and three more reservation counters.

“Additional ticket counters are also to be opened at major stations like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Bhadrak, Brahmapur and Palasa,” the ECoR division said.

It said security arrangements had been strengthened by deployment of additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at Puri and other important stations including in passenger trains.

Moreover, extra lady RPF personnel would be deployed for security of lady passengers and strict vigil during train escorting.

“Special squad for traffic control by Government Railway Police and special police from State Government including sniffer dog, bomb detection squad and metal detectors are being arranged from other Railways for deputation at Puri as a precautionary measure,” ECoR sources said. One ambulance and first aid facility and round the clock availability of doctors and nurses were being arranged at Puri Station, ECR said.

ECoR General Manager Ajay Kumar Goyal stressed on providing smooth train services and ensure of trouble free journey for pilgrims.
