JEE merit list scam: probe gains momentum

BHUBANESWAR: The probe by the Vigilance Department to expose non-candidates who appeared for the examination to help students secure good ranks in the Orissa Joint Entrance Examination merit list has gained momentum.

Corruption in course of conducting JEE 2007 at Ravenshaw University Centre was alleged. Outsiders were allowed to appear for the examination to fraudulently help some candidates secure higher marks in the examination. Higher ranks could have ensured admission in reputed colleges.

According to preliminary investigation conducted by the Vigilance Wing of the Police department, during 2007 JEE some such candidates, who were to attend the examination at the Revenshaw University Centre, had not practically appeared for the JEE. Some others appeared for the examination with the connivance of some invigilators. “Surprisingly one of these candidates by adopting such unlawful method could succeed in securing higher marks in JEE, 2007, as a result of which he could take admission in one of the 3 Government medical colleges of the State,” Vigilance sources said.
