Raipur: The BJP Government in Chhattisgarh has decided to increase bus fares by 20 per cent on Tuesday, but it blamed the Centre for the decision. After several rounds of talks with the bus operators, the Government has decided to increase the bus fares by 20 per cent, Chhattisgarh Transport Minister Hemchand Yadav told reporters here on Tuesday. However, the Minister clarified that the new bus fares would come into effect only after the gazette notification. Blaming the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre for the hike, Mr. Yadav said after the increase in the prices of petro-products, the State Government had no option but to increase the fare. Meanwhile, Assistant Transport Commissioner B.L. Dhruv said after the gazette notification, which would take about ten days, the new bus fares would be 60 paise per km from the current 50 paise. But the fixed rate of Rs. 5 for the first five kms has not been changed, Mr. Dhruv added. -- PTI
