Fresh hope for admission seekers at Delhi University

Staff Reporter

Seats still up for grabs in almost

all colleges

NEW DELHI: Delhi University released its second cut-off list for admissions late on Monday night with seats still up for grabs in almost all colleges in much sought after courses like B.Com. (Honours) and Economics (Hons).

Unlike last year when most colleges had shut admissions for B.Com. (Hons) after the first list itself, many top-notch colleges have declared a second cut-off list for the course this time round.

Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has shut admissions for Economics but lowered the cut-off mark for B.Com (Hons) to stand at 94 to 98 per cent, while at Lady Shri Ram College for Women the course is available at 94 per cent. “Since there is a lot of craze for B.Com. (Hons) and Economics (Hons), a lot of children filled out the forms for both the courses. But when it came to taking admission, they weighed their options and opted for courses other than these two,” said LSR media coordinator Kanika Khandelwal.

Interestingly, LSR has come out with a second cut-off list for all the courses in contrast to last year.

“This time round we consciously decided to peg our first cut-off list a little higher. Last year our figures were rather realistic, so we ended up over-admitting students. If you have over-admissions, there can be no remedy, but if there are under-admissions you can always have a second cut-off list,” Dr. Khandelwal reasoned.

B.Com. (Hons) is also available in Hindu College at 93.5-96.5 per cent and in Hans Raj at 93.75-94.75 per cent.

Economics (Hons) can be pursued in Hans Raj at 92-94 per cent, while the eligibility criterion at LSR is 93 per cent. Sri Venkateswara College is offering the same at 93-94 per cent.

Humanities seem to have attracted the maximum students as most colleges have several such courses running full. Hindu College has closed admissions to Political Science (Hons), whereas no seats are available at Indraprastha College for Women in Philosophy (Hons) and Psychology (Hons). Miranda House has not issued a second cut-off in History and Political Science.

Colleges like Hans Raj and Sri Venkateswara will not be making any admissions to English (Hons).
