“Withdraw private university Bill”
MADURAI: College teachers’ associations organised a meeting here on Tuesday to demand the withdrawal of the Bill introduced by the government in the Assembly to convert two government-aided colleges into private universities.
Members of the associations, under the banner of the Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association (MUTA), gathered on the North-West Masi Street junction to condemn the move.
MUTA zonal president S. Thiagarajan said the Private University Bill would affect the service conditions of teachers, student scholarships and the community roster system. There were fears about the fees going up exorbitantly in these institutions.
