Kochi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday filed in a sealed cover a report on the progress of the investigation in the Sister Abhaya death case. Justice V. Ramkumar had earlier directed the CBI to submit the progress report when a petition filed by Thomas, father of Sister Abhaya, seeking to expedite the investigation came up for hearing. The body of the 21-year-old inmate of a convent hostel in Kottayam, was found in March 1992 in the well on the convent premises. While taking the report on record, the court orally observed that the investigation seemed to be a never-ending process. The CBI, being the premier investigation agency, should try to keep up its credibility, the court observed. The court also orally observed that the agency should take steps to complete the investigation forthwith. Plea for protectionThe Self-Financing Nursing College Management Association on Tuesday filed a writ petition seeking police protection for the smooth conduct of the entrance test scheduled on July 13. In its petition, the association said that it decided to conduct an entrance examination for admission to member colleges, as many of the candidates could not appear for the common entrance test. The admission Supervisory Committee had also agreed to supervise the test. The association feared that certain students’ organisations owing allegiance to the ruling party may disrupt the examination. The test will be held in Kozhikode, Kochi, Kottayam and Kollam.
