KOCHI: The four public sector general insurance companies in the State have registered a growth rate of 6.77 per cent in their premium income for 2007-08. The total premium procured by the companies in the Kerala region during the last fiscal was Rs.821.58 crore. There is an increase of Rs.52.12 crore compared to the previous year. About half of the total premium is from the motor vehicle policy portfolio. United Insurance Company maintained the top position by procuring an amount of Rs.229.58 crore as premium income. An amount of Rs.220.93 crore was the premium collected by National Insurance Company. Oriental Insurance Company and New India Assurance Company collected Rs.192.2 crore and Rs.178.87 crore respectively.
