Ex-Punjab Speaker cremated

Hoshiarpur: The mortal remains of former Speaker of the Punjab Assembly and a veteran Congress leader Dr Kewal Krishan were consigned to flames at cremation ground at Mukerian, 52 Kms.from here on Tuesday afternoon, with full state honours.

Kewal Krishan passed away on Monday evening on the way to DMC, Ludhiana, near Tanda after a massive heart attack.

The cremation was attended by the state’s top political leadership besides a large number of admirers and supporters of the veteran Congressman.

Amid chanting of hymns and a gun salute, Krishan’s sons Avineesh Kumar and Rajneesh Kumar went around the funeral pyre of their father before lighting it.

Those present included Assembly Speaker, Nirmal Singh Kahlon, and other leaders of Congress, SAD and BJP leaders Civil and police officers.
