Collector holds a discussion with officials to tackle situation arising out of the strike announcement by lorry owners TIRUVARUR: All steps had been taken to ensure that essential services like milk and vegetable supply were maintained in Tiruvarur district on Wednesday in view of the lorry strike that would start from Tuesday midnight, said the Collector M. Chandrasekaran here on Tuesday. He held discussions with transport, revenue and police department officials to tackle the situation arising out of the strike announcement by lorry owners. Vegetables would be transported in buses and stern action taken against those who stopped van or vehicle movement, which carried essential commodities. The Collector also said that private traders would be allowed to sell Di Ammonium Phosphate till July 4 only. On July 5, surprise checks would be conducted in all the retail shops and if the traders were found selling DAP, stern action would be taken against them for hoarding. For July, there was a stock of 2,284 tonnes of DAP and 2,579 tonnes of urea. There was a stock of 972 tonnes of Potash and 314 tonnes of Complex.
