THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health and Family Welfare Minister P.K. Sreemathy has said the Kerala State Women’s Commission has not so far submitted to the government any recommendation regarding the age of entry into nunhood by Christian girls. Responding to a calling attention motion from K.M. Mani (KC-M) in the Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister said the controversy over the issue was based on media reports relating to an observation made by the commission in the light of a complaint received by it. The government, she said, did not wish to interfere with the customs and practices of any religion. Every religion had the right to carry on with its customs and practices, but should not the Commission look into it if it received a complaint about the breach of Canon Laws, she asked. To another calling attention motion from E.S. Bijimol (CPI), Labout Minister P.K. Gurudasan said the government was ready with a package for takeover of the estates owned by the Peermade Tea Company.
