TIRUCHI: A new Regional Transport Office (RTO) is to be opened at Ariyalur soon by the Transport Department authorities. The opening of the new RTO follows the creation of Ariyalur district.
The department has already identified a place for the office which would temporarily function from a rented building in Ariyalur. The State Government has given its nod to upgrade the Motor Vehicle Inspector’s Office at Kumbakonam as a full-fledged RTO. The department is in the process of constructing new buildings in Tiruchi, Pudukottai and Tiruvarur districts to house the RTOs.
The multi-storeyed Tiruchi RTO building constructed at Pirattiyur will house the office of the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Tiruchi. Authorities told The Hindu that final touches were being given to the building. The RTO and the Deputy Transport Commissioner office would move to the new building this month.
A senior official said the Pudukottai and Tiruvarur RTO office buildings were expected to be completed by August.
