Chief Minister asks officials to be welfare-oriented

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Setting the tone for the two-day Collectors’ conference beginning Wednesday, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy asked senior officials at a daylong brain-storming session here on Tuesday to be people-oriented and realise the Government dreams by implementing various schemes launched for the poor.

Reviewing the situation in every sector with secretary or head of department concerned, Dr Reddy wanted them to reckon their performance by the smiles they could ensure to the people through the schemes rather than by the statistics of the targets achieved.

He particularly focussed on agriculture in the backdrop of continued dry spell in the State and lack of inflows to reservoirs like Srisailam.

He asked the officials to leave no stone unturned to supply fertilisers and seeds in sufficient quantities to farmers and launch stringent measures if any trader/dealer indulged in diversion or hoarding/black-marketing. In view of complaints against short supply in Ranga Reddy, Medak and Adilabad, he would ask the Collectors of these districts to take immediate steps.

The Chief Minister said seven-hour power supply would be maintained at any cost for khariff though purchases would have to be made from external sources during July-November.

On the job guarantee scheme, he said it should be implemented even during monsoon season but without a clash with the regular seasonal works such as transplantation and crop-cutting.
