Aaron, Ranvir crack centuries

HYDERABAD: A century by Aaron Paul (102 batting, 11x4) helped Bharat Dynamics Ltd. score 269 for five at close on the first day against Deccan Chronicle in the ‘A’ division (three-day) league cricket championship here on Tuesday.

M.S.K. Prasad (93) was the other main contributor to the BDL score.

In another match, Ranvir Banerjee (103 batting, 8x4) helped Ensconse make 322 for five against Evergreen on first day.

The scores: ‘A’ division (three-day) league: SBH 276 for five (B. Sumant 73, Ahmed Quadri 92 batting, Srihari 44) vs. Andhra Bank; BDL 269 for five (Aaron Paul 102 batting, M.S.K. Prasad 93) vs. Deccan Chronicle; Ensconse 322 for five (Ranvir Banerjee 103 batting, Yaseen 53, Mohd. Azharuddin 50, Faheem Abdul 47) vs. Evergreen; India Cements 170 (Santhosh Yadav 49, Habeeb Ahmed 44 n.o.) vs. SCRSA 70 for no loss.

Easy for Narayana

Narayana College (Secunderabad) scored a 4-0 win over Abhyasa College in the Sachdev Sports Cup inter-college football tournament here on Tuesday.

Rahul, Vivek and Anuj (two) scored for the winner.

GHMC carrom

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will organise the GHMC annual, open-ranking carrom championship from July 15 to 19 at the Victory Playground Indoor Stadium here.

Competitions will be held in singles for men and women, boys and girls in different age groups and in doubles for men only. There will be no entry fee. Entries can be sent to S. Madan Raj (ph: 9246583570) or to Martin Menzes, tournament secretaries, at GHMC Swimming Pool, Secunderabad, or at the Victory Playground by July 12. For details, contact Office of the Director of Sports, GHMC, Tank Bund Complex, or at the venue during office-hours.

APCA directive

The Andhra Pradesh Chess Association has made it mandatory for all the players, including learners, coaches and arbiters to register themselves with it henceforth. A workshop for coaches will be held on July 12 at the AP Olympic Bhavan from 11 a.m. with Nasiruddin Ghalib, former international coach and player, conducting it.
