ANYTHING FOR A SEAT: Admission seekers wait in the wings to perform for winning a seat under the extra-curricular quota at Hindu College of Delhi University on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: With almost all Delhi University colleges issuing a second cut-off list for admission to most courses on Tuesday, many students were delighted at finally getting a seat in the institution of their choice. There were also, however, quite a few who returned home dejected, pinning their hopes on a third list. Having made it to B.Com. (Honours) under the quota for the Other Backward Classes, Meerut girl Nayanika was predictably excited beyond words. “I had taken admission at Lady Shri Ram College in B.Com. (Hons) after the first cut-off list. In fact, I made it to most courses like Economics (Hons), English (Hons) and B.A. (Programme) at LSR. But my first choice was always the Shri Ram College of Commerce,” she said. In fact, SRCC’s decision to issue a second cut-off list for B.Com. (Hons) – unlike in the last couple of years -- brought a smile to many faces. “I prepared for my Class XII exams with a clear aim of studying at SRCC one day. I thought that there might not be a second cut-off for B.Com. (Hons). That’s why I took admission at Jesus and Mary College in the same course to secure my seat. Now it seems my prayers have been answered!” said Shivani Tuteja, who now wants to cancel her admission at the other college. That’s something on the minds of many other newcomers as well. Since she now meets the eligibility criteria for Physics (Hons) at Hindu College, Priti Kanth, who had earlier taken admission to the same course at Hans Raj College, is now planning to withdraw her admission fee there. Nakul Manchanda, who took admission to Economics (Hons) at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College after the first cut-off list last week, is now eligible for B.Com. (Programme) at Ramjas College under the second cut-off list. However, since it is the course and not the college that matters to him, he has decided to stick to Bhagat Singh. However, there are many who are waiting for their luck to shine in the third cut-off list. Nikita Kadyan is hoping for a third cut-off list for Psychology (Hons) at different colleges as the second cut-off list brought her no luck. Kanika Kapoor also looked a tad disappointed on Tuesday at having missed a seat in English (Hons) in a North Campus college. “I thought I would get into Miranda House on the basis of the second cut-off list, but I haven’t been able to qualify. I will have to take admission at Maitreyi College as I don’t think there will be any third list for English in any college on the North Campus.” Another newcomer, Sharad Wali, who could not qualify for B.Sc. Mathematics (Hons) at Hans Raj after the second cut-off list, said: “I took admission in Mathematics (Hons) at Ramjas College after the first list. They went by Physics-Chemistry-Maths combination, while Hans Raj is looking at the best four subjects. I have made it to Physics (Hons) at Hans Raj, but not at Hindu College, which is my preference for this course. So I have not made up my mind yet.” Meanwhile, there are many who are banking on their talents in dancing, dramatics and debating to procure a seat in some of the top Delhi University colleges. While Hans Raj has already conducted its trials for extra-curricular activities this past week, Hindu College began its auditions on Tuesday. Kirori Mal College will hold its trial session later this week. Students have been advised to complete the admission formalities in accordance with the second cut-off list by July 4.
