Call for steps to ease traffic congestion

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Traffic bottlenecks in Kochi have been causing a lot of inconvenience to the public.

The slow pace of traffic in a city that is poised to make rapid development in various sectors has been a topic that has been discussed in the past. Yet, little effort has gone into the implementation of reforms aimed at easing the congestion on the road.

The Ernakulam Press Club organised a discussion on the topic.

A series of talks by people who have experienced the traffic snarls at various locations in and around the city came up with several suggestions. The club plans to make a record of the opinions raised at the series of talks and present it to the authorities.

On Tuesday, Khalid Mundapally, a representative of private bus operators, called for construction of flyovers at junctions such as Vytilla, Kundannur and Palarivattom. Another round of discussions, based on the suggestions, will be held in which the officials concerned are expected to participate. An action plan will be chalked out on its basis.
