KOCHI: The Kochi City Police will take another significant step towards increasing efficient community policing as it starts training private security personnel. The community policing initiative taken up by the City Police had already won recognition from various quarters. Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham will inaugurate the training of the first batch of private security personnel at Ernakulam Armed Reserve Camp here on Wednesday at 8 a.m. Deputy Commandant of the Armed Camp, K.I. Bhaskaran, and Assistant Commissioner, Special Branch, C. Jayachandran Nair, will be present. With a strength of nearly 10,000, which is continuously increasing, the army of private security personnel in the city is not something the police can ignore during community policing. In the first batch, 50 security personnel will be given training for three days. The police are interacting with the agencies with which personnel have registered so that batches of trainees are sent by rotation. Along with the three-day basic training module, the police have planned a week-long detailed training package. Police personnel with commando training, anti-sabotage experts and legal experts will lead the classes.
