MADURAI: Collector S.S. Jawahar, on Tuesday, said that Rs. 20 lakh had been allocated to the two cash-strapped town panchayats of A. Vellalapatti and Peraiyur. The finds would be used to expedite solid waste management works. The funds would be given from the 2008-09 Entertainment Tax plans. The Executive Officers of town panchayats had been asked to produce manure using biodegradable waste in their locality and increase the local body’s income by selling the manure. The town panchayats of T. Kallupatti, Peraiyur and Ezhumalai, had been allotted Rs. 30 lakh for modern sanitary facilities. The funds would be utilised for constructing toilets, as the bus stands in the three town panchayats lacked adequate sanitary facilities, a release said.
