We will not compromise: Karat
New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s presence at the G-8 summit in Japan next week would be taken as an indication of the UPA government’s intention to go ahead with the deal.
It would be taken into account on July four when the Left parties meet to decide on withdrawal of support to the coalition.
“We have been told that the Prime Minister was stubborn that he will go to Japan [G-8 summit] only if he is allowed to go forward with the deal. So the Prime Minister going to Japan will be an indicator that he is going forward on the deal. We will not compromise,” party general secretary Prakash Karat said.
“Unfortunate”
Mr. Karat said it was unfortunate that the government had not kept its word given in the November 16 meeting of the UPA-Left committee that it would operationalise the deal taking into account the concerns of the committee. — PTI
