Lorry strike affects production in Hosur

Hosur: More than 5,000 lorries in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts went off the roads since Tuesday midnight as part of the nationwide strike call given by the All India Motor Transport Congress in support of their demands for rationalisation of toll tax and a transparent pricing policy for diesel.
The truck operators are protesting against the government’s decision to introduce speed governors in their vehicles. Hundreds of truckloads carrying essential items from various parts of Tamil Nadu are stranded on the border. The crew are without proper food with materials worth crores of rupees stocked in vehicles and godowns in the industrial town.
Lorries are lined up in front of petrol bunks and service roads on the National Highway – 7 since Tuesday. Sources in the automobile industry pointed out that vehicles carrying finished goods to Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and West Bengal were stranded at the border.
“Production has been badly hit, as automobile companies have to procure raw materials from industrial estates in Bommasandra and Bangalore.
