Textbook issue: expert panel constituted

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government has set up an expert committee headed by historian K.N. Panikkar to study whether any portion of the Class VII Social Science textbook contained objectionable portions, as is being alleged by the Opposition and certain religious groups.

Announcing this in the Assembly on Tuesday, Education Minister M.A. Baby said the committee had been asked to go beyond this specific complaint and study the veracity of even criticism of a general nature about the revised textbooks and the changes incorporated in the school curriculum this academic year. The committee could also examine any other issues it deemed pertinent.
