Pratthipadu (East Godavari dt.): Continuing his tirade against corruption in high places, Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday alleged that some Collectors were involved in swindling of funds in the guise of irrigation projects and other development schemes and said it would be difficult to get things done without their (collectors’) support. There were glaring lapses in National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, construction of Indiramma houses and irrigation projects, but the government did nothing to bring the guilty to book, he alleged. Addressing a press conference at Lampakalova village in Pratthipadu mandal during ‘Mee kosam’ tour, Mr. Naidu said that he had pointed out irregularities both in and outside the Assembly but he could not stem the rot as those at the helm of affairs had the cooperation of some collectors. Unless such clandestine activities were curbed, there would be no end to corruption.
