PUDUCHERRY: Agriculture and Power Minister V. The scheduled banks and cooperative societies in UT had waived loan amount to the tune of Rs. 44.35 crore under the scheme, he said.

Mr. Vaithilingam told reporters here that the banks and societies have already displayed the list of farmers benefited under the scheme. The banks have also distributed Certificate of Settlement to all the farmers benefited under the scheme.

They have appointed Relief Commissioners to hear the grievances on issues pertaining to the waiver of loans, he said, adding that farmhands can approach them to redress any of their problems.

To a query on the steps taken to tide over shortage of fertilizers, he said his Ministry had approached the Centre for allocation of 6,000 tonnes of fertilizers.

“The Centre had promised to allocate the fertilizer shortly. Once we receive the consignment it would be supplied to farmers during the Sronawari season,” he added. The Directorate of Fertilizer, New Delhi had already despatched 600 metric tonnes of fertilizers including Urea, 20:20 and Complex, he said.

Mr Vaithilingam also informed that the government had sought additional allocation of 70 mega watt of power from the Central grid to tide over the shortage. On an average, the territory required 240 mega watt of power to meet the daily requirement but the present allocation was only 175 mega watt, he added.
