Bandh may hit routine life

BANGALORE: Routine life is likely to be affected on Thursday following the 12-hour nationwide bandh call given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to protest against the decision to revoke the allotment of land to Sri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) by the Jammu and Kashmir Government.

Though educational institutions have not been given a holiday officially on Thursday, some schools and colleges have declared holiday.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have said that bus services would be as usual, and the corporations have made elaborate arrangements in this connection.

However, the operations will depend upon the situation, said KSRTC Director (Operations) K.A. Rajkumar and BMTC Chief Traffic Manager Dastagir Sharieff.

According to an Adarsha Auto and Taxi Drivers Association’s representative, the bandh would not affect the movement of autorickshaws in the city.

Petrol stations

Bangalore City Petroleum Dealers Association president Bhushan Narang said that the petrol stations would remain open on Thursday, and that operations would depend on the situation.

Director General of Police R. Srikumar said that the police have advised people who want to protest to do so by adhering to democratic norms and seek police permission.
