Collectors told to regulate fertilizer supply on daily basis

Farmers’ apprehensions over shortage of product not true: Dharmana

Dharmana Prasada Rao

HYDERABAD: The State government has asked the district Collectors to monitor the availability of fertilizers at mandal level stock points on a daily basis.

This follows the consternation among farmers about the inadequate quantities of the commodity positioned at delivery points that was forcing them to take to streets in different parts of the State. “There is an apprehension among farmers over the shortage of fertilizers, but it is not true,” Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said. This was one of the major issues that came up for discussion during the Collectors Conference that got off here on Wednesday.

Briefing reporters later, the Minister said there was adequate quantity of fertilizer available in the State, but there was panic among farmers who were buying the stocks required for the entire season against the normal process of buying as and when required.

The Collectors were asked to monitor the availability and inform the farmers from time to time.

Crop insurance

On crop loans and crop insurance schemes, the Collectors werer asked to educate farmers about the implementation of insurance with village as a unit commencing from the current season and ensure that all farmers including tenants enrolled themselves under the scheme. More farmers should be provided crop loans and they should be made aware of the Pavala Vaddi (three per cent interest a year) being launched for them.

When it was brought to the government’s notice that within the same family some members were covered under Arogyasri while others were not as their names did not figure in the white ration cards, the government has decided to extend the treatment under the scheme if the persons whose names were missing secured certificate from the Collectors.

The meeting discussed about the issue of new white ration cards to 25 lakh families who would receive rice at Rs. 2- a kilo consequent to enhancement of income ceiling as well as supply of red gram and palmolein oil at subsidised prices.

The Chief Minister would formally launch distribution of red gram through fair price shops on July 14.
