Supermarket attacked in Chavakkad

Chavakkad: Seven persons attacked a supermarket at Chavakkad, near here, on Wednesday.

T.K. Thomas, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kunnamkulam, said the attackers barged into the shop around 8.30 a.m. with iron rods, sticks and kerosene and destroyed furniture and computers at the counter. They set on fire rice bags after pouring kerosene on them.

The workers extinguished the fire before it spread. The attackers fled the spot shouting slogans against the outlet. They left notices in the name of Ayyankalipada with a call for attacking supermarkets of corporate giants.

The notice declared solidarity with the ongoing strike of Chavakkad traders against the supermarket.

A press note claimed responsibility for the attack.
