No-trust motion fails in Alappuzha

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: A no-confidence motion moved by the United Democratic Front (UDF) members in the 50-member Alappuzha Municipal Council here on Wednesday failed after the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) dispensation and six other members from various parties abstained from the procedures. The UDF members, led by UDF Municipal Parliamentary Party leader A.A. Shukoor, had moved the no-confidence motion alleging financial irregularities by the ruling front led by Municipal Chairman P.P. Chitharanjan. Though all the 21 councillors of the UDF turned up for the process, none of the 23 LDF councillors turned up.

With four councillors of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and one councillor each of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also staying away, only the UDF councillors voted with Municipal Administration Regional Director Sashikala officiating as the returning officer.
