Green bikes launched

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In yet another step towards promoting environment-friendly modes of transport, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday launched battery- operated motorcycles at a function at her residence.

The motorcycles, manufactured by Evera Auto India who claimed they are the first battery-operated bikes in the country, have come out with ten models that are eco-friendly and can run 80 to 200 km on a single charge of the battery.

The company claims that running these bikes would cost less than 10 paise per kilometre.

Ms. Dikshit, who only recently launched the battery-operated Reva car, termed the latest launch as a “green movement” as the electronic two-wheelers would contribute towards environment protection since they do not emit pollutants.

Descrbing the motorcycles as maintenance-free, the company said it would be establishing a network of 200 dealers in the current financial year to market them.
