Proposal on housing policy soon
Special Correspondent
Housing Board to seek allocation of Rs. 1,354 crore It has purchased land in over 50 places
BANGALORE: In consultation with the Department of Housing, the Karnataka Housing Board will submit a proposal to the Government on the need to evolve a comprehensive housing policy shortly.
G.T. Deve Gowda, who took charge as chairman of the board, told presspersons here on Wednesday that there was a need to streamline the policies and functioning of the various corporations, boards and agencies in the housing sector. The board would concentrate on providing residential sites and houses to the poor and middle-class people across the State, with focus on villages.
The board and the Department of Housing had found lapses in the existing policies and realised the need to simplify rules, Mr. Gowda said. The proposal would help the Government in bringing all the official housing agencies under one roof, he said.
The board had purchased land in over 50 important places, including 300 acres in Lingapura, Hinakki and Marasur in Anekal taluk, and in Bangalore, for constructing over 7,000 houses/apartments. Construction of 400 apartments on a five-acre plot at an estimated cost of Rs. 34 crore was also on the anvil, he said.
The board would seek an allocation of Rs. 1,354 crore for land purchases, repayment of loans and housing schemes, Mr. Gowda added.
