Midday meal scheme workers firm on demand

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: Midday meal scheme workers, under the banner of the Karnataka Rajya Akshara Dasoha Bisi Oota Tayarakara Federation, have decided to launch agitations across the State demanding that the Government fulfil their demands including minimum wages and regularisation of services.

H.K. Ramachnadrappa, president of the federation, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the Government had not kept its promise on regularising the services of midday meal workers.

It is high time that the Karnataka Government emulated the Tamil Nadu model, the federation members said.

Organisations such as ISKCON and Adamachaitanya had obtained contracts for supplying midday meals. This had rendered thousands of poor women jobless, Mr. Ramachandrappa said.

There were complaints from schools on the outskirts of Bangalore regarding the quality of food supplied, he said.
