Former AG seeks compensation
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Accountant General (Kerala) James K. Joseph has said he had received communication from the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India contradicting an adverse Intelligence Bureau (IB) report which had hindered his appointment as Administrative Member of the Central Administrative Tribunal in 2004. In a statement accompanied by a communication from R. Srinivasan, Director (Legal), Office of the CAG, here on Wednesday, Mr. Joseph pointed out that he was denied appointment, even after being selected by a committee headed by present Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan, in view of the adverse IB report to the effect that he had to face an inquiry in connection with the recruitment of contingency staff in the office of the Accountant General, Kerala, and that the inquiry report was ‘unfavourable’. Mr. Joseph said he was now in receipt of the communication from the CAG office, under the RTI Act, that there was no such inquiry at all. He had sent a lawyer notice to Director, IB, seeking compensation. – Special Correspondent
