Temple beautification work starts

ARIYALUR: Work on beautification of the Brihadeeswara Temple of Gangaikondacholapuram that attracts pilgrims in large numbers has commenced at an expenditure of Rs. 50 lakh.

Exemplifying the grandeur and excellence of Chola architecture and sculpture, the eleventh century temple enjoying UNESCO’s world heritage monument status will soon have a museum, a park, a shopping complex, a restaurant, parking slot and drinking water pipes.

The work on beautifying features at Gangaikondacholapuram would be over by October, Collector R. Sudalaikannan informed a meeting held to review activities pertaining to tourism development in the district.

Proposals sought

Mr. Sudalaikannan called upon the Tourism Department to come up with proposals for sprucing up the Watch Tower at Bird Sanctuary at Karavetti and laying of link roads.
