BHUBANESWAR: Showcasing the works of about 70 well-known terracotta artists from across the State, ‘Mruttika’, the week-long annual terracotta exhibition of the State Handicraft Directorate, has been kicked off at the Exhibition Ground here on Tuesday evening. Industries Minister B.B. Harichandan inaugurated the event. Terracotta has got high market potential in view of the changing lifestyle in which interior decoration has gained priority, observed Director of handicrafts L.N.Nayak. Handicraft exporters of Rajasthan have been roped in recently to put Orissa’s terracotta products prominently in the export market while artisans were sent for exposure and training at the NID, Ahmedabad and West Bengal’s Bankura district, famous for terracotta works, the Director informed. The exhibition that would continue till July 7 has a wide range of products costing Rs.25 to Rs.25,000 and it has been an ideal venue for the artisans to interact directly with the buyers and exporters.
