BHUBANESWAR: Well-known Gandhian and social worker Padma Sri Tulasi Munda was honoured with the annual Kadambini Samman for 2008 here on Wednesday. The award that has been instituted by Oriya magazine Kadambini nine years ago, carries a citation and a cash of Rs.25,000. Noted writer Haraprasad Das and the magazine’s founder Achyut Samant jointly presented the award to Munda.

Acknowledging the honour, Munda, the woman tribal social activist and an ardent follower of late Vinoba Bhave, appealed to the people to spare a few moments of their lives for the welfare of the society.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the magazine’s ninth birth anniversary, Mumbai-based eminent Oriya cine actress Mahasweta Roy was visibly moved to discover that by coincidence it was also her 50th birth anniversary. “It’s a great moment to be amidst my audience in Orissa after a long gap of a decade on such a special occasion of my life,” she said.

The Kadambini annual awards for poetry, short story and feature writing were presented to Giribala Mohanty, Bijay Nayak and Monalisa Jena on the occasion while books by Hemanta Mohapatra and Mrinal Chatterjee were released besides the anniversary number of Kadmbini.

Besides Haraprasad Das and Achyut Samant, prominent writers Bibhuti Patnaik and Ramachandra Behera addressing the gathering while magazine Editor Itirani Samant welcomed.
