Training for polling booth officials

The programme is aimed at preparing a fool-proof photo electoral rolls


PUDUKOTTAI: Training programme for the officials of the polling booths setup based on the Assembly constituencies in the district for preparing fool-proof enrolment rolls was inaugurated by the Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Thakkar said a total of 411 polling booth officials have been nominated for the six Assembly constituencies announced by the Delimitation Commission of India after its recent exercise in the district. The main objective of the programme was to train the polling booth officials and the Assistant enrolment officers in the preparation of a fool-proof photo electoral rolls to ensure free and fair polls.

The officials should take utmost care in gathering information from the eligible voters while undertaking the booth wise verification work. They should gather correct information regarding the voters who were no more, who had moved out of the areas and whose names have been left out. Cent per cent verification should be ensured. If wrong photos appeared on the photo electoral rolls, the mistake should be corrected instantly.

The training is being imparted in a three-phased manner and about 70 officials will be covered in each session.

While the training programme for the officials of Gandarvakottai and Pudukottai Assembly segments was held at the Town Hall here, the programme for the officials of Viralimalai and Tirumayam segments was held at Police Training School on Tuesday.

The training programme for the officials of the Alangudi Assembly segment was held on Wednesday.
