CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Commissioner for Food and Civil Supplies, K. Shivaram, has said that steps will be taken to suspend Shirastedar Rachappa in the wake the alleged irregularities in the distribution of foodgrains. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday after visiting some houses at Bendaravadi village and Chamarajanagar to verify BPL cards and distribution of foodgrains, Mr. Shivaram said that the department had to distribute 29 kg of rice and 4 litres of kerosene to Anthyodaya cardholders. But only 6 kg of rice and 2 litres of kerosene were being distributed by collecting Rs. 3.50 a kg and Rs. 10.50 a litre instead of Rs. 3 a kg and Rs. 9.60 a litre. He said Rachappa was held responsible for this. Mr. Shivaram listened to the grievances of BPL cardholders with regard to the distribution of foodgrains and asked them to register their complaints at the control room if they faced any problem from fair price shop owners. He said action would be taken to cancel the licenses of errant owners of fair price shops. Fair price shop owners and department officials had been instructed to distribute foodgrains and kerosene on time to BPL, APL and Anthyodaya cardholders, he added. Deputy Commissioner K. Vishwanath Reddy and Tahasildar Siddu Hulloli were present.
