CHANDIGARH: Extending his support to their agitation, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has appealed to the Union Government to accept the demands of the All India Motor Transport Congress and negotiate the taxation regime to control inflation. Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said that the toll tax and service tax imposed on the truckers fell within the purview of the Union Government, which according to him should accept the truckers’ “genuine demands” without any delay. However, the State Government was open to any negotiations pertaining to its decisions, he added. Meanwhile, owners of approximately one lakh trucks in Punjab and Chandigarh have announced their decision to support the nationwide strike call issued by the All India Motor Transport Congress.
