Revised voters’ list for Rajasthan on August 30

Special Correspondent

There are 532 voters against every 1,000 population

There are 909 females against every 1,000 males

JAIPUR: The final publication of the revised voters’ list prior to this year’s Assembly elections in Rajasthan will be made on August 30. The State has already issued voter identity cards to around 85 per cent of the 3.53 crore electorate. Another round of intensive campaign is scheduled from July 15 to August 15.

“When we started the process in January, 75 lakh voters were without identity cards,” said Vinod Zutsi, Chief Electoral Officer and Principal Secretary, here. “Now that the Election Commission has made identity cards compulsory for voting, we are planning to go for another round of intensive campaign,” he added. The citizens could check the draft electoral rolls for their names and photographs at any polling centre till July 15, he informed. The elections are scheduled to be held in the State on the basis of the delimitation carried out in all 200 Assembly constituencies. After the delimitation, 36 constituencies have new names while as many as 188 have undergone changes. Only 12 constituencies are left unaffected by changes during delimitation process.

Going by the electoral rolls, there are 532 voters in the State against every 1,000 population. However as per the Census figures there are 542 adults (eligible for voting) in the State against 1,000 people. In the case of man-woman ratio, the electoral rolls have 909 females against every 1,000 males while the Census figure ratio is 920 women against 1,000 men.

“Wherever there is a greater gap, we go for a ‘health check’,” Mr. Zutsi said. As a part of the intensified campaign on enrolment of names and for issue of photo identity cards, the Election Department is planning to set up permanent camps in all district towns. The identity cards would be issued also on the basis of certified photographs if anyone were not in a position to personally visit the camps, Mr. Zutsi informed.
