Demolition drive to continue

Target shifts to buildings constructed in last 6 months

HYDERABAD: Having carried out more than 350 demolitions in the last few days, the GHMC is intent on continuing its drive till the end of the month.

The target for now is illegal structures that have come up in the last six months and unauthorised conversion of residential to commercial complexes.

“We have received substantial number of applications under the Compulsory Disclosure Scheme (CDS) for regularisation, but there are still more than 10,000 buildings which have been turned into commercial properties and yet to apply.

We will be issuing notices to all of them and take action too,” warned a senior official.

Focus on west

Circle wise figures of the precise number of structures that have come up under the cover of CDS being in vogue and getting extensions for the last six months are being prepared, he said.

Focus is especially on the western part of the capital falling under Serilingampally municipal circle that has been witnessing high growth activity, legal and illegal for quite some time now.

Not surprisingly, the highest number of demolitions was taken up there with 53 cases in both north and south wings of Serilingampally.

It is followed by Kapra municipal circle – 46 demolitions, Kukatpally – 40 and L.B.Nagar/ Gaddiannaram – 26. In the core city area of ex-MCH region more than 105 demolitions were taken up.

Hindrance to work

However, the current verification of new polling stations in the 15 city constituencies after delimitation could hinder the work to some extent with the planning personnel also being drafted for the work, admit officials.
