NITs, IIITs: counselling to begin tomorrow

NIT Warangal doubles intake to 740 from 350


WARANGAL: The online and on campus counselling for admission to various NITs and IIITs would be held from July 4 to 13 at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here.

The counselling would be held at 18 centres spread across the country simultaneously. NIT, Warangal, Director Y. V. Rao and AIEEE-2008 admissions in-charge A. Sharat Babu said, those who qualified for the AIEEE can attend the counselling to seek admission to 20 NITs, five IIITs, including IIITM, and seven Central and State government-funded institutions, 14 self-financed deemed universities and other institutions for a total number of 17,925 seats in engineering and architecture stream.

Number of seats

Prof. Sharat Babu said NITs have 11,163 engineering and 385 architecture seats, while IIITs have 827 engineering seats across the country. About 8.5 lakh students appeared from the AIEEE-2008 examination and 96,000 students secured eligibility for admission. Of them, students from Andhra Pradesh constitute 12,000, the highest from any State.

According to him, the number of seats available in NITs and IIITs in engineering is: open category – 12,019; open PH – 251; SC – 2,054; SC PH – 51; ST – 27; OBC 1,806; OBC PH – 40; total – 17,380.

Prof Y. V.Rao said, NIT Warangal had doubled the intake from 350 to 740 to implement the 27 per cent OBC reservation.

Of the available seats, 50 per cent of seats would be allotted to the students of Andhra Pradesh and the rest would be filled on all India rank merit basis.

The candidate can seek admission to any college selected through counselling on the spot without approaching the college. Further details can be had from the website www.ccb.nic.in.
